Travel options
Osijek can be reached by plane, train, bus or car. For international participants, Zagreb Airport is one of the main options, with onward connections to Osijek by bus or train. Other possible airports include Osijek, Belgrade and Budapest.
Plane
The main Croatian airport is located in Zagreb and is well connected to many European destinations. More information about flights and destinations is available on the official websites of Croatia Airlines and Zagreb Airport.
Osijek also has a local airport, Osijek Airport, which offers a limited number of direct international and domestic flights. Participants are advised to check the current flight schedule when planning their journey.
Other possible airports are Belgrade Airport and Budapest Airport. Zagreb is approximately 280 km from Osijek, while Belgrade is approximately 180 km away.
Participants travelling via Belgrade may also consider combining their trip with a visit to the SOFTA colleagues in Novi Sad.
Train
Croatia has railway connections with a number of European countries and cities. International train connections can be checked using the Deutsche Bahn journey planner.
Information about Croatian railways, timetables and connections to Osijek is available on the Croatian Railways (HŽPP) website.
For participants travelling from Prague or Vienna, another option is to travel by train to Pécs, Hungary, which is approximately 90 km from Osijek.
Bus
Regular bus services connect Osijek with Zagreb and other Croatian cities, as well as with destinations in neighbouring countries.
Information about bus connections from Zagreb is available from the Zagreb Bus Station. Information about bus connections to and from Osijek and online ticket purchase is available from Arriva Croatia.
Participants travelling from Vienna can also conveniently reach Osijek by bus or car.
Local transportation in Osijek
Public transportation in Osijek is operated by GPP Osijek and includes tram and bus services. Information about routes and timetables is available on the GPP Osijek website. The workshop venue is located at Trg Ljudevita Gaja 6.
Taxi services are widely available in Osijek. Participants may also use Bolt, which operates in Osijek and provides a convenient option for travelling between the airport, railway or bus station, accommodation and the workshop venue. Fares are shown directly in the Bolt app.
Accommodation
Participants are strongly advised to arrange their accommodation well in advance. Spring is a busy period in Osijek, with numerous events taking place in the city, and some accommodation facilities are already fully booked for the workshop dates. Early booking is therefore highly recommended. The following accommodation options are recommended for FLOWS 2027 participants.
Maksimilian Rooms ★★★ — Recommended accommodation
Maksimilian Rooms is located at Franjevačka 12, in Tvrđa, the beautiful historic part of Osijek, within walking distance of the workshop venue at the School of Applied Mathematics and Informatics, Trg Ljudevita Gaja 6.
Due to the limited number of rooms and high demand for accommodation during the workshop period, participants wishing to stay at Maksimilian Rooms are strongly advised to make their reservation by November 2026.
When making a reservation, please indicate that you will be attending the FLOWS 2027 workshop at the School of Applied Mathematics and Informatics, Trg Ljudevita Gaja 6, Osijek.
Hotel Millennium ★★★
Hotel Millennium is a three-star hotel with 18 rooms. It is located at Kralja Petra Svačića 12, approximately 11 minutes on foot from the workshop venue.
The current room rates are €62 per night for a single room with breakfast and €90 per night for a double room with breakfast. Please note that these rates cannot be guaranteed for 2027 unless the reservation is made in 2026.
Hotel Silver ★★★
Hotel Silver is located at Martina Divalta 84, approximately 14 minutes on foot from the workshop venue.
The hotel is currently undergoing renovation and will remain a three-star hotel after the renovation. Reservations for April 2027 will be accepted from 1 January 2027, once the updated room rates have been determined.
Participants are kindly advised to check the accommodation reimbursement rules applicable in their respective countries.
